4 Steps to Better Sleep

(After skincare, of course)

1. Blue light glasses. Please! I never got the idea until I tried them out for myself a few years ago and then bam, I realized they really do make such a difference.

Blue light tricks our brains into thinking it's daytime, slowing the release of chemicals usually released to make us sleepy, and interrupting our natural sleep cycles. I'm not saying don't go on your phone, just make sure you're using blue light blocking glasses when you do.

2. Don't go on your phone. Like to fallll asleep.

I work from my phone and get creative spurts at night, so I am often, on-my-phone-at-night.

But I try to spend the last 30 minutes to an hour before falling asleep away from my devices. Longer, if possible. I find that when I ease into new routines, they become more sustainable in my life.

So what's the alternative? Grab a good book. Get lost in a new world or pick something that interests you. Some of my favorites from the last year:

Untamed by Glennon Doyle

City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert

Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid

The Leopard Warrior by John Lockley

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

SO GOOD. All of them.

Spending time away from screens before bed also helps connect you to your own thoughts and self before rest, making for more vivid dreams and deeper sleep.

3. Drinking herbal tea. While it's still hot!

Plant medicine and teas follow us back to the beginning of human existence. In many cultures around the world, they are the basis of life itself, holding energy of our ancestors and used in various ceremonies + healing practices.

We know that drinking a warm beverage calms our soul. Combining it with an intentional experience of drinking that tea while taking time for some deep breaths or reading, makes space for you to reflect on the day. On how your body feels. The thoughts and emotions dancing around your head.

It's a physical act that gives way to stillness within.

So, (I'm still working on this one too) don't forget about your tea, let it get cold, and bring it back to the kitchen the next morning...

Make the tea, enjoy the process, drink your tea <3, then bring it back to the kitchen in the morning.

Finding a new favorite tea is the BEST and it's exactly what I experienced when I had Chill Out Cherry for the first time. It's caffeine free, has ashwagandha, and is free of plastic and chemical glues. And if you're a sucker for things cherry and fruity, this speciality tea is for you. To celebrate a moment of growth, a season of change, to calm the soul, and to nourish it.

4. Aromatherapy, a natural boost. Keep a lavender sachet by your bed. You can squeeze to activate each night, and awaken to serenity in the morning. Light a candle as you get ready for bed to set the mood & fill your room with an air of relaxation.

Stick to scents with bergamot, ylang ylang, lavender, chamomile, cedar, jasmine, or sandalwood.

My evening routine usually looks a bit like this:

- Brewing some Chill Out Cherry tea

- Washing my face

- Lighting a candle (Maui has been my go-to lately)

- Evening skincare

- Stretching / meditating on my mat

- Journalling

- Reading

- Lights out

I hope these tips find you well in life and that they're easily implementable into your routine. They're pillars that set up a good night's rest, which strings together so many other aspects of our health.

They say a good day begins the night before.

Healthy wishes
